LARS (Lancaster Area Ride Service) is designed to provide Lancaster County residents of all ages access to transportation.

In a recent satisfaction survey a passenger stated "All drivers are pleasant.  Great Job!"

The mission of the service is to provide Lancaster County residents of all ages access to a safe and reliable transportation system.

LARS is a joint effort of local nonprofit organizations committed to making Lancaster residents mobile. The service is operated by the Lancaster County Council on Aging with funding from the South Carolina Department of Transportation and Lancaster County.

What you need to know about LARS

Hours of Operation: Monday – Friday

Normal pick up and drop off hours are between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Closings due to inclement weather will be announced on local television channels.

LARS does not operate on the following holidays:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Martin Luther King Day
  • President’s Day
  • Good Friday
  • Easter Monday
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day and the day after
  • Christmas Eve
  • Christmas Day

Call 803-285-6956 to make your LARS transportation reservation. Call three business days in advance to schedule your transportation!

Notify the reservation clerk of any special needs (wheelchairs, car seat, etc.)

Be ready 30 minutes before the scheduled pick-up time. Allow 30 minutes after the scheduled pick-up time for the LARS vehicle to arrive.

FAQs

Who can ride?

All Lancaster County residents of any age needing transportation are eligible. All persons must be 18 years of age or older to ride alone. Adults with certain disabilities may need to be accompanied by another adult. Request for wheelchair accommodations can be met.

How much?

Fares listed below are for Lancaster County residents only and are charged each way.

  • Trips within Lancaster County: $5 each way
  • To and from Rock Hill: $10 each way
  • To and from Columbia or Charlotte: $20 each way

Fares paid on the bus the day of travel must be exact change.

Where do we go?

We pick up only in Lancaster County, and take Lancaster County residents to where they need to go.  For out of Lancaster County, we take Lancaster County residents to medical treatments only.

Carry-on Items

Riders are encouraged to limit the type and number of items they carry on LARS vehicles.  Items brought onto the vehicle cannot take up a seat and must be placed on the floor.
